"Another Stone to Carry" is at its heart, a story about finding your place in the world, and the often tumultuous journey that occurs in the discovery of self. We meet the main character in this story, Kass, as a young teenager who is full of the naive hope and innocence that often accompanies youth. I don't want to spoil anything in the book, but Kass suffers an unspeakable tragedy that completely shatters all of her previously held paradigms, and as a result, goes into a tailspin that lasts well into her adult years.

This story is a beautiful telling of her climb out of that darkness. Of the bravery it takes to truly embrace what you need in life to make you happy, despite what anyone else may think.

Seraphina Nova does a wonderful job navigating this dark story. It never feels self indulgent. There is always the hope that things are going to be all right, and then they are, in a very unexpected way. Highly recommended, and a great first book! I look forward to more.

This is not a story for the faint of heart. It is dark and gritty and yet has a hopeful finish. Working my way thru the vivid scenes I couldn't help but wish I could gather kass in my arms and hold her. She deserved better than life dealt her and ultimately got it.
I really loved this book! I read a lot of different books and lately I haven't found a book to keep me engaged. I couldn't put this down, I was invested, I just had to see her through. I laughed and cried, I fell in love with the character and found great comfort in the feelings and actions she experienced and shared. It hit home for me and I'm sure it will with others who have experienced something like this. It is a tragically beautiful story of overcoming darkness, being yourself no matter what and not laying victim to your past. I look forward to reading more from the author.
The only thing I didn't LOVE about this book is that it ended. I could have read on & on & on. From the 1st chapter I was 100% envelpoed in the life of Kass. I am admittedly not much of a reader, but this book came highly recommended from a friend, so I decided to give it a try & am so glad I did. The writing is perfect in that it gives enough detail to perfectly paint a picture, yet leaves just enough room to imagination & interpretation. I felt like I was right there with Kass through every struggle & every moment of joy. This story truly taps into the "coming of age" experience whether it parallels your life or not. I myself had very few paralells to Kass, yet felt for her just the same. I found my self laughing, crying & rooting for her sometimes all in the same chapter. I'm glad I was introduced to this book & author & cannot wait to read more from Seraphina Nova!
I enjoyed this read from the beginning. I found the imagery to be vivid and the story line flowed smoothly. This is a powerful story. I feel compelled to pass it on to the younger women in my life, my young adult nieces and their cohort could be benefited by the read. I felt it was honest and written from a core place of growth and understanding. I'll look for future writings from this author.
Had me from the first chapter... I thought in the beginning it was a story of survival but soon realized it was an amazing story of learning to love yourself... As a woman who can relate to many parts of this woman's journey ... and has traveled that long hard road of learning to love myself, curves, edges and beautiful imperfections as the song writer's say... This book was wonderful to read. Thank You Seraphina Nova for your beautiful words.
This book hooked me from the start. The writing is engaging, the story--oof, talk about jumping into a "can't stop reading" plot. It's dark. But, never hopeless. I find a lot of books that trend into darker materials, get to be "too much," or somewhat unbelievable, not with this one. I was with Kass from the beginning, and even when the book takes you to sinister places, that I had to take a bit of a break from, I always returned, and needed to know how her story turned out. Seraphina Nova has written a story that takes you into a world I was ready to roll with from the get go. I look forward to what's next from this author. She has a way of making you feel the despair of the main character, while continuing to root for her. And even when the "right" decisions, still feel just a little off for Kass, I was there, turning pages (swiping screens on my kindle version), waiting eagerly to find out what was going to happen.

As a woman, this book resonated in my heart. A highly recommended, wonderful read.
From the moment I cracked the binding of these pages, I fell down the rabbit hole with Kass. It's the type of book that blurs the lines between reality and the world held inside its pages; even when you set the book down (which is rare), Kass's story follows you into your own life. Nova is the Sister Souljah of the lesbian community, weaving tales of loss, desperation, fear, and pain, but breaking through it all with the themes of love, self acceptance, and survival. It's the type of book young girls will hide under their pillows to read with a flashlight long after bedtime, and grown women will carry in their bags to sneak in one more chapter whenever possible. This novel is a true page turner, unforgettable, and inspiring.
