This book hit all the right notes for me. The world is a delightfully detailed mix of magical fantasy and steampunk, with a main character who is tough as nails, and too snarky to admit she still needs help from her friends. The story jumps right into intrigue, sprinkling in hints of romance, healthy portions of action, a whole heap of dubious characters and frightful monsters, and--of course--a dash of dragon. Highly recommend for any young (or old!) lovers of fantasy.

Funny, quick paced, and full of great characters, A Dash of Dragon will appeal to any kid who loves fantasy. The plot is interesting and the characters well developed, but what I really loved was the world-building. A Dash of Dragon takes place in a world that could contain an infinite number fascinating stories, and I hope we get to see a lot more of them.
This middle grade fantasy world was so much fun to spend time in. The young heroin Lailu faced a lot of obstacles in this story however when things got tough, she got even tougher, facing the challenges head on. She is a true independent character who plays nice with those who believe in the magic of Mystic Cooking.

How good is the writing duo Heidi Lang and Kati Bartkowski? The depiction of Lailu’s cooking had me craving some dragon cuisine!
I loved A Dash of Dragon, not only for the mighty girl sensibility but also for the FUN. And fun should absolutely be an ingredient in summer reading. I can just imagine what a good time these author sisters had working on this book. I anxiously await their next collaboration!
If you like adventure and suspense and you like surprise stories with a happy ending, then this is your book! I enjoyed reading A dash of Dagon and following along with the adventuros Lailu. I was worried about how she would solve this, but amazingly she did! Now, where is her next adventure? Hope we won't have to wait long.
This book was fantastic. The characters are interesting, the world is well developed, and the action felt almost too real at times. First younger-audience book since Harry Potter where I couldn't predict the outcome after reading the first chapter. Also despite the excellent humor, the story didn't shy away from scary scenarios that left the reader wondering how the heroine would escape unscathed.
Fun read, highly recommend it, and I'm on my second time through it now.
A super fun page turner. The characters are all vibrant and somehow familiar. The intensity and drama of this fantasy novel keeps you on your toes as you constantly try to put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Suitable for children and adults.

What I love most about A Dash of Dragon is that it gleefully turns the fantasy genre on its head. Dragons? Delicious delicacies! Elves? Conniving mobsters! Heroes? Scrappy, smart young women who are independent and empowered!

A Dash of Dragon is excellent for all ages, but especially young readers. It delivers an engaging story with charming main characters, all in a uniquely built fantasy world. It's funny, fast-paced, and completely novel. Where else will you find a plucky young heroine hunting down mythical monsters to cook and serve in her very own restaurant?

I could go on, but you should stop reading this review and start reading A Dash of Dragon! I can't wait to see what else these authors have in store.
